EC holds senior cop liable for Mamata Banerjee's injury, cites security lapse in Nandigram

News on West Bengal, Kolkata: The committee, Election Commission of India, on Sunday suspended Purba Medinipur SP Pravin Prakash claiming laxity in security provided by police to the West Bengal Chief Minister in Nandigram on the day she sustained injury to her foot.

"Charges shall be framed against him for major failure of bandobast," the commission was quoted as saying by ANI.

Further, the poll panel has appointed former DGP Intelligence of Punjab, Anil Kumar Sharma as Special Police Observer for West Bengal Assembly elections.
Sharma are going to be the second Special Police Observer, additionally to Vivek Dube.

Earlier, the committee (EC) claimed that the injury caused to TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram wasn't a results of an attack, and had quoted a report by state's Observers and Chief Secretary.

The poll panel declared that the incident and injuries sustained by Mamata Banerjee was thanks to a security lapse and not a planned attack, consistent with the report of two poll observers submitted to the EC on Saturday. The report also said Banerjee was injured thanks to the suddenness of the incident.

According to the report of her initial checkup , the TMC supremo sustained 'severe bony injuries' on her left foot and ankle also as bruises and injuries on her shoulder, forearm and neck.

The West Bengal CM is constant together with her election campaign during a wheelchair and claimed that she is going to not let it affect her work.

The polls to 294-member West Bengal Assembly are going to be held in eight phases ranging from March 27. The ultimate round of voting will happen on April 29, whereas, the counting of votes will happen on May 2.

Ex-BJP leader and former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha joined Mamata Banerjee's TMC on Saturday.

Ex-BJP leader and former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha joined Mamata Banerjee's TMC on Saturday (March 13). the previous BJP leader joined TMC at the Trinamool Bhawan in Kolkata within the presence of Derek O Brien, Sudip Bandopadhyay and Subrata Mukherjee.

After joining the TMC, 83-year-old politician said, "You must be surprised why at this age when I’d distanced myself from party politics. Why am I joining a celebration and turning active? I’d wish to say the country goes through a unprecedented situation."

“The country is facing an unprecedented situation today. The strength of democracy lies within the strength of the institutions of democracy. of these institutions including the judiciary became weak now,” said Yashwant Sinha at TMC headquarters in Kolkata.

The veteran politician spoke on several issues while addressing the press, including the continued farmers' agitation on Delhi boarders and therefore the stand-off situation with China. Sinha also sought to draw a comparison between this Narendra Modi government which of former PM Vajpayee.

"BJP during Atal Ji's time believed in consensus but today's government believes in crushing and conquering. Akalis, BJD have left the BJP. Today, who is standing with BJP?" Yashwant Sinha added.

"There is not any one to prevent the government's wrongdoing. Atalji believed in consensus, this government believes in coercing. Atalji believed in co-opting, this government believes in conquering. Atalji built a national alliance," Sinha said.
The former BJP leader, while talking about his reason to hitch TMC said, "The tipping point was the attack on Mamata Ji in Nandigram. it had been the instant of decision to hitch TMC and support Mamata Ji."

The announcement comes each day after Chief Minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee was discharged from state-run SSKM Hospital in Kolkata. Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday (March 10) alleged that she was attacked by four-five men who pushed her during her campaign in Nandigram. 

Meanwhile, the political environment in West Bengal is getting tensed as both the parties, BJP and TMC, have started their election campaigns within the state. The assembly elections in West Bengal are scheduled to be held in eight phases. The voting for phase 1 for 30 constituencies will happen on March 27, voting for phase 2 for 30 constituencies are going to be persisted April 1. 

The polling for phase 3 for 31 seats will happen on April 6, for phase 4 for 44 constituencies on April 10, for phase 5 for 45 constituencies on April 17, for phase 6 for 43 constituencies on April 22, for phase 7 for 36 constituencies on April 26 and for phase 8 for 35 constituencies on April 29.

This time the state government has taken a new step to celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has declared January 23 as 'National Day'. He also demanded that the day be declared a national holiday by increasing the pressure on the Center. On Monday, the Chief Minister held a virtual meeting in Navanne to celebrate Netaji's 125th birth anniversary. Monday's meeting was attended by Netaji's grandson Sugat Basu, Nobel laureate economist Abhijit Binayak Banerjee and several other dignitaries. Vice Chancellors of different universities were also present. The meeting came up with a bunch of plans to celebrate Netaji's birth anniversary. The state plans to celebrate Netaji's birth anniversary 'Deshnayak Diwas' to be celebrated on January 23 Birthday procession from Shyambazar to Red Road Sirens will be sounded across the state on January 23 at 12.15 p.m. • On that day, Mamata also requested to give conch shells and owls to the house A short film will be made about Netaji's life • Azad Hind Bahini to be formed in schools, colleges and universities • A parade will be held in honor of Netaji on 15 August In Monday's meeting, Mamata proposed to build an 'Azad Hind Bahini' monument in Netaji's name. He also proposed to create a national university in his name. Various plans have been made from the grassroots level to present Netaji to the people of the state.

A coordination committee has been formed under the leadership of Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay. Increasing pressure on the Center, Mamata said, "Personally, I don't think we have been able to do anything important with Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose." I have written to the Center to declare January 23 as Netaji's birthday as a national holiday.
